Internal Investigations

The Internal Affairs Division has the responsibility of conducting independent administrative investigations of allegations of misconduct or critical incidents involving members of the Denton County Sheriff's Office.  The Internal Affairs Division will investigate external administrative complaints as determined by the Sheriff or Chief Deputy.  The procedures established for the handling of administrative complaints assures the thorough investigation of incidents to determine if an administrative violation occurred.  The Internal Affairs Division makes certain due process is afforded to all members of the Denton County Sheriff's Office in the discipline process.  The member's chain of command determines and issues discipline, based on the findings of the Internal Affairs investigation.  In addition the Internal Affairs Division is tasked with oversight of policy development and implementation for both the Operations and Detention Divisions.

The Denton County Sheriff’s Office accepts all complaints alleging an act or acts which, if proven true, would be a violation of departmental regulations, County of Denton Policy, or a violation of any applicable civil or lawful regulation. If this complaint is related to a call for service, i.e., barking dogs, noise complaint, theft, etc., please call 911 for emergencies or 940-275-7500 for non-emergencies.
